A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions.
The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile and distinguishes them from calculators.
Large computer programs may take teams of computer programmers years to write.
Errors in computer programs are called bugs.
A general purpose computer has four main sections: the arithmetic and logic unit (ALU), the control unit, the memory, and the input and output devices (collectively termed I/O).
These parts are interconnected by busses, often made of groups of wires.
Computer hardware is the physical part of a computer, including the digital circuitry, as distinguished from the computer software that executes within the hardware.
The hardware of a computer is infrequently changed, in comparison with software and hardware data, which are "soft" in the sense that they are readily created, modified or erased on the computer.
